(ORANGEVILLE, ON) May 20, 2022 — The Toronto Beaches dropped their second game of the season on Friday night, dropping a 9-5 final to the Orangeville Northmen at Tony Rose Arena.
Toronto came out hot to start the first period, with a goal from Jacob Hickey coming on the first offensive touch of the contest. Jakson Raposo had the Beaches’ final two goals of the opening frame, with Liam Matthews splitting the markers to get the Northmen on the board.
After one, the Beaches held a 3-1 lead.
Willem Firth would keep his hot streak going to open the season, scoring a power-play marker at the 15:21 mark. Following a Noah Millsap marker for Orangeville, the Beaches got out on the run, and Taylor Dooley and Josh Fairey were able to connect with Dylan Robinson, who tallied his first career Junior A goal to make it 5-2 with six minutes remaining in the second.
However, the tide would turn in the Northmen’s favour from that point. The hosts went on a 3-0 run in the final three minutes of the period, capped off with a Liam McGrath goal with 11 seconds remaining to tie it at five heading to the third.
Cody Coulson got his second of the game just 50 seconds into the third stanza, and that would hold as the game-winning goal. Millsap and Donny Scott added insurance markers before Owen Rahn sealed the game with an empty netter in the final two minutes.
The 7-0 run to end the game catapulted the Northmen to the 9-5 victory at home.
Now sitting at 1-2 to open the season, the Beaches will look to rebound in their next stretch of games. They return to action on May 25 when they travel to St. Catharines for a showdown with the Athletics before returning home to welcome the Whitby Warriors to Red Reeve Arena on May 26.
