(BURLINGTON, ON) June 6, 2022 — The Toronto Beaches were able to capture their fifth victory of the campaign on Monday night, beating the Burlington Chiefs 10-8 at Central Arena.
Willem Firth got the Beaches going off the hop, scoring on a quick shot to start a power play before adding his second on another blast under a minute later. Dylan Robinson made it a quick 3-0 lead with a shorthanded transition tally. Teharonhiorens McComber got the lone Burlington goal to make it 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
Toronto ran into penalty trouble in the opening period. Alex Gaston took a five-minute major for butt-ending, and minors from Robinson and Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre put the team on the kill for nearly half of the first.
After the defence and Will Johnston helped shut things down in the first, the second saw Toronto take control. A double-minor for a check from behind on Nicholas Volkov sent the Beaches to a power play that yielded a pair of goals from David Anderson and Cam Acchione. Robinson tallied his second transition marker of the night before Zach Miller scored a beautiful goal on the crease, waiting out the goalie and shoveling the ball over his far shoulder.
Will MacLeod got the lone Chiefs goal of the period. But Gaston and Matt Collison answered right back to make it a 9-2 advantage after 40 minutes.
Despite an impressive first 40 minutes, the Beaches let Burlington back into the game after running into more penalty trouble. Braedon Saris and Collison traded goals at the 14-minute mark. But Burlington went on a 5-0 run to end the game. George Pitt, Alexander Marinier, and Greg Elijah-Brown got goals.
At 10-6, things got worse for Toronto when Taylor Dooley took a high-sticking major with 6:49 remaining in the game. MacLeod and McComber got their second goals of the night on that man advantage, however, the Beaches were able to lock things down in the final two minutes to secure a victory.
Now sitting at 5-3, Toronto will return to Ted Reeve Arena for a doubleheader against the Orangeville Northmen (Jun 8) and Mimico Mountaineers (Jun 9).
