KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON (June 30, 2023) — The Toronto Beaches got out to an early lead and shut the door the rest of the way, beating the K-W Lacrosse Club 16-1 at Kinsmen Arena on Friday night.
With Willem Firth out of the lineup, Matt Collison stepped up with the best performance of his career, scoring seven goals and 10 points. Greg Palmer also surpassed the 50-assist mark for the season with four helpers on the night.
However, Andrew Kidd was the story of the night. The Beaches starter took home his 10th win of the campaign while turning away 40 shots and allowing just a single goal — besting the two goals he gave up against St. Catharines on Wednesday.
Toronto opened the game hot and carried the momentum throughout. Hamish McPherson started things off with a goal at the 15:12 mark before Collison got his first two of the night in the next two minutes.
From there, the Beaches’ transition game got going with a shorthanded transition marker from Dylan Robinson. McPherson got his second and Jackson Webster got a second transition marker to end the first, giving Toronto a 6-0 advantage after one.
Collison took over in the second period, scoring four goals, including three straight goals in a four-minute span. Jacob Hickey and David Peterkin added goals of their own to make it a 12-0 game after 40 minutes.
From there, the visitors shut things down on the back end. Kidd held a shutout through 55 minutes, but a late Power-Play chance led to a goal from Clark Dunford to end the run. Kidd was lifted from the game shortly after for backup Carson McLean.
Eoin MacKay and Collison got on the board to start the third, and goals from McPherson and Peyton Booth put an exclamation mark on the night.
The Beaches took home their fourth straight win on Friday and now sit at 10-7 for the season. They’ll have the weekend off before returning to action in a home doubleheader against Mimico (Jul 5) and Oakville (Jul 6).
