TORONTO, ON (June 3, 2024) — The Toronto Beaches were able to keep their strong start to the year going on Monday night, defeating the Six Nations Arrows 9-3 at Ted Reeve Arena.
The Beaches’ offence was led by Willem Firth, Matt Collison, and Liam Aston had big outings in the win, finishing with five points apiece in an impressive 72-shot night for Toronto.
Goaltending tandem Thomas Kaizyk and Nick Parolin were sharp as well. Kiazyk faced 33 shots, only conceding two within 48:44 minutes of play, with Parolin conceding one off 11 in his 11:16 minutes of play after relieving Kiazyk in the third period.
Less than a minute after opening face-off, Firth opened the scoring off a pass from Collison, quickly giving the Beaches the lead. Greg Palmer doubled up the lead on a tap-in pass from defenseman Ryan Bullock after coming off the bench. Winter Rivera of Six Nations grabbed the only goal of the period for the Arrows at the 10-minute mark. The Beaches continued their onslaught of offensive pressure for the rest of the first period, but they were unable to find another goal in the frame.
Both teams would head to their respective locker rooms with the Beaches leading 2-1.
Collison opened the scoring in the second period with a silky move to beat goaltender Saka Thompson. Toronto grabbed two more with Palmer and Collison both notching their second goals in the game to extend the Beach lead to four. Arrows forward Brendan Anderson would get the Arrows a goal back 12 minutes into the period. However, the Beaches had other plans and decided to go on another three-goal stretch that saw Firth notch his second, Collison secure a hat-trick, and Aston nab his first in transition.
Beaches would head into the third period leading the Arrows 8-2.
A scrappy third would open without a goal for nine minutes. But Beaches forward Peyton Booth cracked the silence off a feed from Aston. A minute later, Anderson got that one back for Six Nations with his second of the game. The rest of the third would go scoreless, however certainly not actionless. Toronto forward Jack Woynarski and Six Nations forward Trysen Sunday would drop the mitts with two minutes left in the game getting both benches fired up.
Toronto would go on to win the game 9-3, moving to 5-0 on the season. The team will be right back in action on Wednesday night as they head on the road to face the defending Minto Cup Champion Burlington Chiefs at Central Arena. Opening face-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
