Beaches dominant in win over Jr Lakers

TORONTO, ON (June 27, 2024) – The Toronto Beaches jumped back into the win column on the second half of a back-to-back Thursday night, beating the Peterborough Jr Lakers 11-2 at Ted Reeve Arena.

Willem Firth put together an impressive nine-point night, consisting of five goals and four assists. Hunter Lubiniecki was the next-highest player on the Beaches with five points, all of which were assists.

Thomas Kiazyk had a night between the pipes bolstering 0.956 save percentage, facing 46 shots, and only letting two behind him through the full 60 minutes.

A short minute after opening face-off, Firth got started quickly with a jump shot landing top right to grab the early lead. Greg Palmer got his first of the game at the 13:26 mark with a well-placed shot to double the lead. Owen Wills got on the board in transition, while on the power play, closing out the flawless 3-0 period for the Beaches.

Opening the second frame, Firth snagged another quick goal for his second of the game. However, 30 seconds later, Nick Dilauro stopped the Beaches’ four-goal run – breaking the shutout.

Firth responds with a contested shot on the power play that snuck by Goaltender Cole Gervais. A minute later, the ball finds Defender Eric McDonald who dove over the crease while shooting, notching an unbelievable goal at the 13:54 mark of the period.

Beaches would score three more before the end second. Will Sheehan slipped one in on the power play, and Firth nabbed two more – with one on the power play as well.

Another dominant period saw the Beaches lead the Lakers 9-1 heading into the third.

A scuffle at the end of the second put the Lakers on a 5-on-3 advantage to start the period. Nicholas Roode capitalized on the opportunity, cutting the lead to seven. Forward Matt Collison grabbed the Beaches’ last two of the game – one at the 15:36 mark and another 4:03 of the third – to seal the 11-2 victory.

Toronto will stay home for their next game on June 29, when they’ll welcome Orangeville to Ted Reeve Arena, with the opening face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
