(TORONTO, ON) April 8, 2025 — The Toronto Beaches today announced that the organization has hired Jacob Hickey as a Special Assistant.
“Jacob is one of the finest young men I have ever met. His character, leadership, and work ethic are second to none,” Beaches Head Coach Reilly O’Connor said. “We have tried to build our culture around great people, and Jacob will undoubtedly elevate our program in more ways than one. We are very excited to get him back around Ted Reeve this summer!”
Hickey, 22, is a Beaches product who spent his entire minor and junior career with the Toronto Beaches, serving as an assistant captain for the Jr A team in 2022 before becoming captain of the team in 2023.
He helped the team to its first-ever Minto Cup appearance in 2022, scoring a hat-trick in Game 5 of the team’s series against Burlington to solidify their spot in the Canadian National Championship.
After spending the first four years of his junior career playing out of the front door, he made the switch to defence, where he was able to take home the John “Gus” McCauley award as the OJLL’s Defender of the Year in 2023.
Hickey was selected eighth overall by the Georgia Swarm in the 2023 NLL Draft, and he signed his first contract with the Swarm in February and has played in seven games to this point in the 2024-25 season.
“I’m pumped to be back with the Beaches. I was lucky enough to play for the Beach and grew up watching the team my whole life, so to be back involved with the Junior A team now is really special, and I couldn’t be more excited,” Hickey said. “It’s an amazing group of players and staff, and I’m grateful for the chance to be a part of it again.”
