Firth scores seven; Beaches outlast K-W

(TORONTO, ON) June 2, 2025 — The Toronto Beaches came out on top of a back-and-forth affair with the K-W Lacrosse Club on Monday night, winning 12-9 at Ted Reeve Arena.

Willem Firth led all Beaches players with seven goals and eight points on the night. Peyton Booth had a goal and three assists to his name as well, while Hamish McPherson, Kaleb Tatarek, and Hunter Lubiniecki each had a pair of points apiece.

Jack Woynarski led all defenders with three assists in transition, and Tyler Francis-Renner chipped in with an assist as well.

Thomas Kiazyk turned away 36 shots for the victory — his third on the campaign.

Firth opened the scoring for the Beaches at the 18:43 mark, taking a turnover caused by the defence in for a breakaway and outwaiting Zach Richards for his first goal of the season.

K-W answered back with back-to-back goals from Kaeden Burger and Cal Brennan, but Firth struck again, outrunning his defender and going to the air to score far-side. Brennan got his second to put K-W back ahead, but the Beaches captain completed his hat trick with a shot that found its way home through the five hole, sending the teams into the first intermission deadlocked at 3-3.

The back-and-forth continued in the second period. Toronto got a pair from Firth and Tatarek, but Brennan added two straight of his own to tie things back up. But the Beaches found a three-goal run to push ahead in the frame. Firth continued his heater, scoring his fifth before McPherson finished off an inside feed from Francis-Renner on the crease. Firth finished off his sock trick at the 15:11 mark of the second frame, making it 8-5 Toronto.

Max Frattaroli got one back for Kitchener-Waterloo with 10:31 left in the period, but Peyton Booth got an outside shot to fall to get that back for the hosts.

James Donnelly got the final goal of the frame for K-W, making it a 9-7 advantage for the Beaches after 40 minutes.

The Kitchener-Waterloo defence and Richards held the Beaches off the board for the first half of the third period, allowing them to get things back to even. K-W captain Chris Rathwell scored at 16:07, and Brennan’s fifth tied the game with just over 10 minutes to play.

But Toronto bounced back in a big way to end the game, shutting the door defensively and finding the eventual game winner and insurance.

Firth capped off his return with his seventh of the night at the 9:41 mark, cutting past his defender and potting a twister on the crease. Lubinecki added to that with his first off an outside rip. Tatarek netted his second of the night shorthanded to seal things for the Beaches, who saw the rest of the game out without allowing a rebuttal.

Now sitting at 4-2 on the season, the Beaches will look to avenge a prior loss when they face the Oakville Buzz at Ted Reeve Arena on Thursday. Opening face-off is at 8:00 p.m. ET.
