Beaches beat Jr. Lakers with dominant all-around effort

(TORONTO, ON) June 16, 2022 — The Toronto Beaches were able to take home their second victory of the week on Thursday night, beating the Peterborough Jr. Lakers 18-8 at Ted Reeve Arena.

The attack for the Beach was spread out, but Willem Firth led the way with a goal and seven helpers on the night. David Anderson (2G, 5A), Cam Acchione (2G, 4A), and Matt Collison (4G, 2A) also had big nights.

Toronto opened the game hot, quickly hopping out to a 4-0 lead off the strength of transition markers from Anderson, Andrew Dalton, and Acchione. Matt Collison stung a shot home to give the Beaches momentum early. Daniel Clark broke the run, but Clifford Gaston and Collison added back-to-back markers to finish the first period, giving the Beaches a 6-1 advantage after 20 minutes.

Toronto’s defence was able to stifle the Lakers, holding them to only a handful of settled possessions in the first, as the pressure caused several turnovers and transition chances.

Peterborough opened the second frame with back-to-back goals to narrow the gap. Nick Dilaurio started it off, and after the Beaches took a penalty following the goal, Dante Kulas added a power-play tally.

However, the Beaches took a stranglehold on the game from that point. In a five-minute span, Toronto buried seven unanswered goals. Jakson Raposo and Greg Palmer each had a pair while Jacob Hickey scored the eventual game-winner in the middle of the run.

After the second period concluded, the Beaches had outscored Peterborough 9-4, giving them a 15-5 lead heading into the final stanza.

From there, the teams traded goals in the third, but the Jr. Lakers were only able to add another three. Anderson, Collison, and Zach Miller put up insurance markers to seal the 10-goal victory.

The Beaches are winners of five of their last six games and now sit at 8-4 on the season. The team will travel to Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Sunday for their first showdown of the campaign with the Six Nations Arrows.
