Beaches bounce back with dominant effort against K-W

PICKERING, ON (June 15, 2023) — The Toronto Beaches jumped back into the win column on Thursday night with a 19-5 victory over the K-W Lacrosse Club at Pickering Rec Complex.

Once again, Willem Firth and Matt Collison were the offensive leaders for the Beaches. The former had seven assists and 10 points while the latter got his second sock trick of the season and finished with nine points. Peyton Booth and Greg Palmer also finished with six points apiece.

Andrew Kidd added another win for the year with a 44-save performance.

The Beaches were able to jump out to a lead after the opening 20 minutes despite giving up the opening goal of the contest. Zane Dalpe got the visitors on the board at the 16:52 mark. But from there, Collison took over. He knotted the game up before pushing the Beaches ahead with back-to-back goals. Peyton Booth made it three straight and Collison completed his hat trick to end the first period.

With a 4-1 lead after one, Toronto continued to push coming out of the first intermission. Collison continued to have the hot stick, scoring three of the Beaches’ first four goals of the second — Booth added his second during that run. Eoin MacKay got his first of the year in transition to make it 9-1 for the hosts.

K-W pulled back with a pair of goals from Lowen Martin and Dalpe, but Josh Fairey got his first of the summer to end the second frame.

Down 10-3 heading into the final period, K-W got two straight off the rip in the third, with Dalpe and Martin scoring again. However, the Beach ended the game on a nine-goal run to put it away.

In that run, Firth secured his hat trick, Booth nabbed the first hat trick of his Junior A career, and Leo Hoffman scored his first OJLL goal.

With the victory at home, the Beaches move to 5-6 on the year. They’ll be back in action with another weekend doubleheader when they welcome Six Nations to Pickering Rec before going on the road to face Orangeville.
