PICKERING, ON (June 17, 2023) — The Toronto Beaches managed to come out on top of a low-scoring affair on Saturday night, beating the Six Nations Arrows 9-7 at Pickering Rec Complex.
The game was the completion of the postponed Jun 1 contest between the two teams, which saw play suspended at the 6:09 mark due to floor conditions.
Saturday’s game resumed where the previous one left off — with the Beaches starting up 3-1 off goals from Peyton Booth, Greg Palmer, and Willem Firth.
The shortened first period went by fast, with neither team finding the back of the net. They headed into the second still at 3-1.
However, business picked up in the second, with the visitors getting the first of the re-started game. Daylin John-Hill found the back of the net to cut the Beaches lead to one, but David Peterkin and Hamish McPherson got a pair right back for Toronto. John-Hill kept scoring for Six Nations though, as he powered his squad back within one by completing his second-period hat trick.
Matt Collison and Matt Hamill traded goals at the end of the frame to make it 6-5 for the Beaches going into the third.
The Arrows quickly tied the game with a strike from Tyler Davis just over a minute into the stanza. Firth then scored his second of the game, but Davis knotted the game again after just 40 seconds. The teams battled for a late marker to push ahead, and it would come at 4:57 from the stick of Collison in what would turn out to be the eventual game-winner.
In the final minute, the Beaches got an insurance marker from Firth, who completed his hat trick with a slick behind-the back finish on top of the crease with a defender on him.
Moving to 7-6 for the campaign, the Beaches don’t get any time to rest, as they’ll head back on the road on Sunday night for a crucial matchup with the Orangeville Northmen.
