(TORONTO, ON) July 3, 2025 — The Toronto Beaches claimed the Crombie Cup over the rival Mimico Mountaineers on Thursday night, winning 9-7 at Ted Reeve Arena.
Stats
The Beaches’ offence got off to a hot start, with Mills getting things started off a pass from Firth at the 17:31 mark of the first. Tatarek followed up, double-dipping with a pair to make it an early 3-0 advantage. Evan McDougall got the visitors on the board, but Firth got it back with his first of the game just over a minute later.
Toronto was able to get out and run, with Owen Vivian scoring and Zach Vanderwal netting his first Junior A goal in the closing minutes of the opening frame. Justin Tavares pulled Mimico closer in the final minute, but the Beaches carried a 6-2 lead into the first intermission.
The second period was much quieter on both sides, with only a goal dropping each way. McPherson added on, sweeping the top and scoring on an outside look. Tavares got a power-play goal to answer, sending the teams into the final period with the Beaches leading 7-3.
It was Mimico pushing to knot things up in the third, and Anselmo Rego got them started just 21 seconds in with a goal off the opening draw. Firth would get that back on the next draw, hammering a shot home. Back-to-back goals from Tavares and McDougall made it an 8-6 game with 15 minutes left, but the Beaches’ defence and Kiazyk were able to turn away the majority of the chances to help seal things. Aston got an insurance goal in the closing minutes, and despite a Tavares marker in the final minutes, Toronto was able to see out the win.
Now at 13-5 on the year, the Beaches head into arguably their biggest game of the year to date, when they head on the road to face the Whitby Warriors at Iroquois Park on Saturday afternoon. Face-off is at 2:00 pm ET.
