(WHITBY, ON) July 5, 2025 — The Toronto Beaches put on an impressive display against the Whitby Warriors on Saturday afternoon, winning 13-4 at Iroquois Park.
Willem Firth and Josh Mills each paced the Beaches in scoring on the afternoon, posting three-goal, seven-point outings each. Liam Aston had a hat trick of his own, along with six points, while Cal Brennan added a goal and four points.
Thomas Kiazyk turned away 35 shots to help his team to the victory.
The first 10 minutes of the game saw the Beaches find themselves on the penalty kill. A five-minute major followed by a two-minute boarding call put Toronto on the back foot, down two men. Julien Belair made good on the chance, getting the hosts started with a power-play marker.
However, Kiazyk and the Beaches’ defence was able to weather the early storm and come out swinging to end the frame. Seth Martineau sparked a run, pushing the ball through nearly every defender on the floor before flipping a behind-the-back pass to a streaking Josh Mills, who tucked a shot on the crease. Hamish McPherson made it two in a row, scoring on an outside shot. Tyler Francis-Renner kept the run going, scooping a loose ball and going the length of the floor to score in transition.
Toronto kept the pressure on to end the first, with Firth scoring on a short-side shot before Cal Brennan tapped in a rebound, making it 5-1 after the opening 20 minutes.
Whitby got the opening goal of the second, with Gabriel Sorichetti getting his first, but Aston and Firth connected with a quick stick on the back post to get that goal back. Mills added his second, hammering a shot home on the power play. Jack Woynarski continued the run with a shorthanded marker, scoring from nearly centre-floor with a low shot.
Nolan Byrne made it 8-3 with another power-play marker for Whitby, but Firth answered with one on the Beaches’ next man advantage. Aston scored another, beating his defender with a great move to get topside before burying a bouncer. The Beaches carried that 10-3 lead into the final period.
Jack Oldman started off the third with a goal for the Warriors. However, that would be as close as Whitby would get. Aston scored another on the power play before he and Brennan worked the pick and roll for an insurance tally. Mills’ hat-trick goal came in the final three minutes, as he muscled his way to the net to help seal the deal for Toronto.
Winners of nine straight, the Beaches now sit at 14-5 for the season heading into their final game of the regular season. They’ll welcome the St. Catharines Athletics to Ted Reeve Arena on Monday night to wrap their regular-season series. Opening face-off is slated for 8:00 pm ET.
