(TORONTO, ON) July 7, 2025 — The Toronto Beaches finished off the regular season on a high note, winning 8-5 over the St. Catharines Athletics at Ted Reeve Arena on Monday night.
Hamish McPherson led all scorers for the Beaches, posting a six-assist night in the win. Liam Aston added a pair of goals and an assist, while Caden Hewitt had his most productive game of his career, posting three points of his own in transition.
Josh Mills and Kaleb Tatarek each had two points apiece in the victory.
Thomas Kiazyk earned his 12th victory of the campaign, turning away 48 shots to help his team take home the win.
Despite missing captain Willem Firth, the Beaches got off to a strong start offensively, with Noah Candy opening the scoring for Toronto eight minutes into the first. Aston added on under a minute later. Zack Toll got St. Catharines on the board, but Aston’s second made it a 3-1 Beaches advantage after the opening 20 minutes.
It was the Beaches finding twine first in the middle frame, as Jack Woynarski got a transition marker at the 12-minute mark. Seth Martineau followed up with an outstanding individual effort, beating a defender for his second goal with the Beaches. The Athletics found a pair of their own shortly after, with Toll and Jameson Bucktooth scoring. But Aston and Brennan worked the two-man game, scoring on a perfectly executed pick and roll to make it 6-3 after two.
Coming out for the third, Toronto got an early marker on the power play from Kaleb Tatarek to grow the lead. Chuck Rawson and Tye Steenhuis helped the visitors try to cut into the lead, but a late empty-netter sealed the Beaches’ 10th straight victory.
Ending the year at 15-5, Toronto has secured the second seed in the OJLL playoffs. Stay tuned to our social media for updates on dates and times for our first-round playoff series.
